There
is a subtle yet dangerous difficulty in attempting to produce public space
that promotes exposure without reintroducing the element of control. The
idea is to resist recent attempts in urban design to create environments
that promote a preconceived sense of identity within a community. Such
visions of intimate space can result in the production of exclusive territories
of homogeneity and sterility within the fabric of the city. This proposal
is an exploration of an urban affirmation of difference.
